BITS, Pilani – Dubai (BPD) organized a meet of its industry partners in UAE on March 4 as a part of its 10 th anniversary celebrations. “INTERFACE 2010”- Celebrating Industrial Partnerships, Honouring PS Partners” saw the celebration of industrial partnerships of B ITS , Pilani-Dubai. The illustrious list of companies offering internships and placements to BPD students has increased steadily over the years from 7 in 2001 to 361 in 2010. All these industry professionals gathered for an evening of networking at the BPD campus in Dubai Int'l Academic City . The event was attended by the CEOs and Managing Directors of several reputed organisations in UAE such as Siemens, FedEx, L&T, Cluttons, Steinweg Sharaf, ETA Ascon, Microsol, Procal, Al Futtaim Engg etc.
The evening, organised by Prof. Dr. Tanmay Panda, Dean – Practice School, Career Counselling and Placements at BPD not only facilitated interaction between the guests but also gave them an opportunity to have a campus tour of the state-of-the art BPD campus and learn more about the institution. Prof. Dr. M. Ramachandran , Director, BPD in his address to the guests spoke about all the aspects which led to the phenomenal growth of the institution in the past 10 years and the achievements of BPD graduates both academically and professionally. He added that BITS, Pilani is the only institution in India which has this unique feature of having an industrial internship programme of 7 ½ months within the curriculum and he was immensely happy that he could replicate the same in the Dubai campus with the support he received from the industry. Thanking the companies for their support in offering internships and placements to the students, he expressed that, with the excellent expertise and infrastructure available, BPD has enormous potential to offer consultancy to the organizations for collaborative research, providing technical and managerial know-how and Executive training etc. He also announced the PhD programmes to the industry professionals and also asked the organizations to take advantage of the Masters programmes in engineering and management offered to the working professionals, which would immensely benefit both the organization and its employees.
BPD's practice school initiative was much lauded by the Industry as they benefited a great deal from the excellent projects done by the students. BPD students have been involved in several prestigious projects of Dubai such as Dubai Metro, Burj Khalifa, Jebel Ali Airport , Dubai Mall, Meydan, Uptown Mirdif etc. The Industry also expressed their interest in the continuing education opportunities introduced by BPD.
‘INTERFACE 2010' also lived true to its motto of ‘Celebrating Industrial Partnerships and Honouring PS Partners' as companies that have been associated with BPD's Practice School Program since its inception were felicitated for their long standing support. The evening was enlivened by student performances which accompanied dinner and included Bharatnatyam and Kathak renditions, singing and a fusion performance by the band. BPD's initiative at organising the event was appreciated by all the professionals and it was even suggested that ‘INTERFACE' be made an annual feature on the BPD calendar.
