Enginuity 2009 at BPD
BITS Pilani - Dubai organised its first ever intercollegiate tech-festival 'ENGINuity 2009' on the 25th and 26th of February 2009. 'ENGINiuty', which is a word play on "An Engineer's Ingenuity" truly catered to the meaning of that phrase. ENGINuity'09 challenged the students from various universities around Dubai to showcase their technological talent and acumen in the various events on show.

ENGINuity'09 brought together participants from a number of top universities from all over the UAE, including MAHE Manipal, Mahatma Gandhi University, Heriot-Watt University, S P Jain Centre of Management, Institute of Management Technology and IITM. The students of BITS Pilani - Dubai also participated enthusiastically in the event and breathed life into all the competitions.

The events comprising ENGINuity were Computer Gaming, Computer Programming, 'Jargon' (a Tech Quiz), 'Bridge Building' and an 'On-the-spot Model Making' competition. The Computer Gaming competition emerged to be a popular one among the students. The participants competed in COUNTER STRIKE 1.6 ('A First Player Shooting (FPS)' game), FIFA 09( A Soccer game) and 'Defence of the Ancients' (DotA) (A Warcraft game).

The Computer Programming Competition challenged the participants to prove their programming skills in one of three programming laguages.

'Jargon', the techno quiz tested the participating students' knowledge of various science and tech topics.

The Bridge Building competition was a unique designing competition where the students were supposed to design a self supported bridge capable of withstanding static load on the pathway, using only drinking straws and tape. The competition was an excellent example of being creative with minimum resources which is the need of the world today.

The On the spot model making gave a simple task of making two paper planes using a single sheet of paper for each plane but the challenge was to make one of them travel the maximum distance and the other to travel for maximum time. This event in fact drew the maximum participation.

The Core Committee for the event comprised of Dr. G. Vijaya (Dean R&C), Dr. Tanmay Panda (Dean PCP), Mr. Abhinav Gupta (Student Secretary), Mr. Piyush Singh (Student Member of Core Committee) and Mr. Rohan Trikha (Student Member of Core Commitee).

The event was a first time endeavour by the students to organise an intercollegiate event and it turned out to be a great success. All eyes now turn to ENGINuity 2010, which should be an even bigger success story.
